It's All About the Children
As I spoke with a case worker from the Department of Children’s Services one evening, I felt the unction to share with you some beautiful ideas that struck me. During my conversation with this amazing woman, I realized we had a common view point, “It is all about the children.”
She shared with me that she was a foster mom before she became a caseworker, and as I listened to her philosophy as a foster mom my heart melted. She explained, “I loved the children for as long as they were with me.” What a beautiful mindset. So many times, we lose perspective and get wrapped up in our own “stuff”. Yes, we all endure many things as we proceed on our journey called life. However, there are always alternative ways of looking at our circumstances that we don’t consider. We all have a story to tell, but there are times when we need to take a step back and look at our circumstances through different lenses.
There are answers to each of our challenges. For birth parents there is support available and numerous resources for what you are facing. For adoptive families there are resources and options for you. Adoption does not have to be financially overwhelming, depleting your savings.
Life and adoption are blessings. It is an honor and privilege to bear life and to adopt. Help is available for everyone.
Psalm 127:3-5 says,
“Behold, children are a heritage and gift from the LORD, The fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth. How blessed [happy and fortunate] is the man whose quiver is filled with them; They will not be ashamed When they speak with their enemies [in gatherings] at the [city] gate.” (Amplified Bible)
How awesome is that? Children are an inheritance and a blessing from God. Children are gifts from Him. I believe that no matter how they come into our lives, they are each precious and perfect gifts sent to us. I believe He has picked each child for us and we are trusted to steward them. His desire is for us to raise up our children to be deeply loved and well adjusted.
As we set that as our goal and ambition it will be reflected in our children’s behavior. When a child is loved and well-adjusted, it is very obvious for all to see. The one thing we need to remember is that the children belong to God. With His help we need to do our best to serve them well.
I totally support the adoptive and birth families in who they are and what they face. But I think it always comes back to the fact that it is all about the children. That is why we focus on the children at Conduits of Love, while at the same time loving, supporting and standing with the birth and adoptive parents. It is a holistic approach.
At times life may seem overwhelming and solutions may appear invisible. We stand confident that there is help and answers are always available. When you are feeling overwhelmed and have lost perspective, please take a moment to look up over your current circumstances to gaze at the end result.
It is all about the children.
We are part of the team helping the children, our treasures beyond measure, find their forever families.
